Assessing the suitability of urban-oriented land cover products for mapping rural settlements

چکیده

In recent years, new settlement mapping products have become available at the global and continental scale. Although accuracy assessments indicated high quality of these products, were performed mainly on urban areas. However, there is also a need to monitor rural development, as it often located in proximity biodiversity hotspots. this paper, we verified suitability three (i.e., Global Urban Footprint – GUF, European Settlement Map ESM Open Street OSM) detect settlements Carpathian ecoregion. Two independent that GUF captures most effectively (overall OA 65.4% 92.5% depending procedure). contrast, overestimated (OA 49.5% 90.8%), while OSM 61.2% 90.2%) was inconsistent source data. A regional comparison some deviations from accuracies, reflecting variability structures within study area. This highlights although best-performing product across whole area, information provided rather conservative, are still insufficiently represented all tested datasets.

Assessing the suitability of GlobeLand30 for mapping land cover in Germany

Global land cover maps have been widely employed as the base layer for a number of applications including climate change, food security, water quality, biodiversity, change detection and environmental planning. Due to the importance of land cover, there is a pressing need to increase the temporal and spatial resolution of global land cover maps. A recent advance in this direction has been the G...

Urban Land-Cover Dynamics in Arid China Based on High-Resolution Urban Land Mapping Products

Rapid urbanization has occurred in northwestern China, threatening the sustainability of its fragile dryland ecosystems. A lack of precise urban land-cover information has limited our understanding on the urbanization in the dryland. Here, we examined urban land-cover changes from 2000 to 2014 in 21 major cities that comprise over 50% of the developed land in arid China, using Landsat Enhanced ...

Application of Multisource Data for Urban Land Cover Mapping

The aim of this study is to discriminate urban land cover types using the features derived from optical and spaceborne interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data sets. For the efficient discrimination of the selected classes, a rule-based algorithm that uses the initial image segmentation procedure based on a Mahalanobis distance rule and the constraints on spectral parameters and sp...

Object-oriented mapping and analysis of urban land use/cover using IKONOS data

There are a number of challenges in applying high-spatial resolution satellite image data for analysis of larger urban areas. This paper explores the use of object-oriented image analysis approaches in mapping urban land cover and land use. The study is based on seven IKONOS images covering the Santa Barbara, CA region. Image processing included geometric and atmospheric correction and image se...
